Catching up with a girlfriend always require a place that isn't too loud so you can hear each and not have to YELL. Arrived after 6pm and was asked for a reservation? Of course I didn't have one seeing as it was so early! We chose a table on the border of the inside/outside line. The courtyard floor is lined with fake grass, in addition, they have fairy lights all lined up with some displayed in glass jars. I would have to say the ambiance is casual with relaxed vibe accompanied by some great tunes. We spotted a DJ deck but by the end of the night there was no one playing, probably stuck with the trusty Ipod. I started with some pear cider and Emma had Prosecco (i think). To eat we had a selection of dumplings ranging from mushroom, prawn, duck and crab. Each had 4 portions. The BBQ duck is amazing! You must get this. We were content with our starters and decided to leave mains for now till we were more hungry. Instead we filled up with some beautiful Barrosa Shiraz and when then was nearly finished we decided to share the "Kuila Dadai" which is Malaysian style pandan crepes, caramelised coconut, "laughing donuts" and coconut cream ($10). Mouth watering dessert! Staff are friendly and attentive. Located upstairs on the mezzanine level, below ‘Hugos Lounge . We were surprised it was not packed?! Indeed this is not one of your average dumpling bars but the food is spectacular. Get on it! Address deets can be found here: weeb

What is Gyoza for those that do not know? Its pretty much a fried dumpling or pot sticker. So if you like yum cha you will love this place! Located on Bayswater Rd just behind the Coca-Cola sign. Harajuku Gyoza is a happy place and they want you to be "happy in the tummy" as their slogan suggests, even the dumpling on the window has a smiling face! They also mention, you must 'Come in hungry like Godzilla"....:P They do not take bookings so we rocked up around 7pm and there were few seats at the bar or stand alone tables. This place is great for nibbles, lunch, dinner and groups. The plates are quirky with different pictures of Japanese themed such as buildings, Harajuku girls, scenery and so fourth. This place does remind me of being in Shinjuku. Any quirky thing is when someone orders a sake (i think could be umeshu) the waitresses start screaming in Japanese. Quite strange but hilarious at the same time! To get things rolling we got Kirin on Tap and Rising Sun pale ale then for food: 1 x Grilled pork gyoza (5 pieces) $8 1 x Poached duck gyoza (5 pieces) $8 1 x Vege grilled gyoza (5 pieces) $8 1 x Chilli Chicken Kaarage $9 1 x Edamame beans $4 That was for 2 and that was quite filling! We also did not want to fill up too much because we wanted to try out their desserts! For dessert we got the Nutella Banana gyoza with ice cream ($9 for 3 pieces). It was everything you can expect - warm gooey nutella with bits of banana through it. YUM! Pity there was only 3 :( I give this place a thumbs up.Definitely will be back to try the sake cocktails and the frozen beer....hmm very interesting. Address details can be found here: weeb First visit last Saturday and so far I was impressed. We arrived after 9pm and there was no queue of hipster peoples.... so straight down the stairs we dashed as the bouncy was busy talking to a cop i think the convenient store a few doors down may have just been robbed! Yikes Place was half full (everyone else was probably still at the Mardi Gras parade) and the lovely couches were empty so we made a beeline for the bar. Was not in the mood for cocktails so i ordered a glass of Shiraz from a friendly blonde waitress. Thank goodness it was palatable as i would of been disappointed for getting a glass liquid that resembled the taste of vinegar for $10! Atmosphere was good, Ambiance was good. Ever so often they would make a cocktail that had flames so that was always entertaining and i made a promise that i would indeed attempt this flaming cocktail on my next visit. We did not get to try the food but the menu looked tasty! Address details can be found here in my Drink in Sydney page: weebly I believe this place has been open just over a month. It is one of those novelty restaurants and we wanted to try the food ourselves. We arrived about 6pm so not many people seated yet. Staff are friendly and attentive. So far so good! Lighting is pretty bright here but then again it was a very gloomy day out. I ordered the banana milkshake and the Jack Daniel ribs. Milkshake was sweet and tasty reminded me of when I was a kid at restaurants. Ribs were a big serving with chips and salad and very saucy just how I like it! And I don't eat a lot of ribs so that's saying something. My sister enjoyed her meal too which was the Jackies Eye fillet I think with mash and veggies. It's my first visit and the place is still new so we shall see how far it goes! I gave it 2 1/2 to 3 stars because I did enjoy my ribs but for 2 meals and a kids meal came to $93! Pretty exy I think! When you in the town hall area around 6 ish and feel a bit peckish for dinner. Do not hesitate to walk to Chefs Gallery on Bathurst St just down from the KFC. Generally if you have the foresight you can book ahead online but alas you can always leave you name with the hostess on the door and wait probably around 5-10 min sometimes its longer and sometimes your're in luck! As soon as we arrived there were at least 12 people waiting outside so we asked for a table for 2 and the hostess asked if we didnt mind bench seats....um of course not! Zing! Instant table and we faced the kitchen so we could see the guy making fresh noodles! Awesome We ordered the Roti Peking Duck, BBQ Fried Noodles and chilli chicken (which we secretly thing should be called KUNG POW Chicken - Its not hot or spicy its just an awesome name!) Everything as usual was mouth-watering! Teamed up with some iced lemon tea! Delish! Waiters are friendly and efficient, Food is quite fast too! This is one of those places that you've been meaning to visit but just haven't got the time or you keep forgetting about it.
So since it was our anniversary dinner I figured why not spoil ourselves with some fine french cuisine. It only dawned upon me on the day of our reservation whilst i was trying to find it on google maps, that I have walked past this place so many times and didn't realise it was under my nose the whole time! Ananas is located above Lowenbrau keller and used to be "Uber bar", Now its more a classy establishment :P with bar and restaurant. Beautiful rustic feel inside and loving the pineapple lamps they have throughout the restaurant! For entree, we had the prawn cocktail, then for mains we both had the Savanah grass fed 300g Sirloin, The Mr had his with Bearnaise sauce and I had mine with the cafe de Paris butter sauce both came with pommes frites. For drinks The Mr had a dirty martini with gin which he proclaimed was the best he ever had! I had the Absolutely Ananas (above picture). For dessert, I had the Ananas 4 ways with coconut mousse and he had the Snickers revolution, Both insanely heavenly! Waiters were very hospitable and french :). Overall we both agreed it was the best anniversary dinner thus far! Address details can be found here: weebly I read that this bar only opened up sometime last week and decided that it would be the venue for a mini reunion with some of my old bar colleagues. Monday night 6pm, it is pouring with rain and i'm trying to find this place, upon finding it I realised I walked past twice! Its located at 346-348 Kent St (a little alleyway to the right of the building) where you will find this cosy New Orleans/voodoo inspired bar. It was previously a garage but with the way the owners have revamped this bar, it looks like it has been here for years. The seating is quite spacious stools at the bar complete with lounges, bar stools and chairs, so a variety to pick from. Cocktails range between $16-$19 with a tantalizing selection from the traditional Daiquiri (Hemingway style) to the Showchomp Sour (I think that's what it was called). Throughout the night we kept getting complimentary popcorn, burger rings and what tasted like shapes biscuits! Between the 6 girls it kept disappearing as soon as it landed on the table! The owners/bartenders are very attentive with our drinks and snacks, they were very helpful in relation to their cocktails and would check to see if we liked them :) Great hospitality~ If your looking for a new bar to check out or just need a new change of scenery, give Papa Gede's a go and you will not be disappointed! Until the next adventure, Cheerio :D Address details can be found here also: weebly P.s ~ My pics are not the best but if you can see the skull I deem them sufficient! Last Dinner in Melbourne so we decided on somewhere close to the hotel.
We checked out their website and saw they had ice cream sandwiches = sold! We ordered meatball sliders (Beef) and the Balls & All (Chicken) both amazing! For dessert of course we had the whoopie mac which consisted of Ferrero Rocher ice cream between pistachio and ginger biscuit. Drinks we started off with the Aperol Spritz then had the Ramazotti Hot chocolate which consisted of Fine cocoa & milk steamed with amaro ramazotti and fresh mint! Pictures are not the best quality but alas they give you an idea of this cute little bar. Link for their website can be found on my "Eat in Melbourne" Tab or click here weebly |
