Located on Taylors Arm Rdm, Macksville about 42km from Nambucca Heads. We decided to stop by here for lunch on our long drive back to Sydney.
It is located literally in the middle of nowhere! Our GPS told us the spot it would be but we had to drive for a further 3 mins before we came across it. You can definitely spot their handmade sign before you pull into the carpark. (see pictures) YES, they do still serve beer! We arrived at 11.45am, So we decided it was early enough to grab a beer and to order our food. They have Murray's beer on tap. For lunch we got the Pub with no beer burger with chips and sausage, peas, mash and gravy. Food was quick and good. The place was so quiet! We thought it would be busy because it was Sunday lunch but you had more tourists arriving then locals. Staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a lots of tables to choose from to sit, either indoor, outdoor and on the verandah/porch. The furniture on the verandah looks to be hand made with stools carved out of tree trunks! Very arty. Glad to say that we crossed this pub off our list! :)

Cool little Cafe located on the main strip in Mudgee. - Family friendly - Serve organic juices - They use Toby's Estate coffee - Open Monday - Sat 7am to 5pm & - Sunday 7.30pm - 4pm - Outdoor and Indoor seating - Has a play area for the kids and a sign on the door that welcomes breast feeding mothers. Went in on a Sunday about 9am and there were a lot of empty tables so we sat near the back wall where they have a board of arts and crafts with various different types of puppets on the wall (these are available for purchase if you feel inclined). We got the big breakfast and the poached eggs with bacon and avocado. Coffee was good and so was the food, Also got a freshly squeezed juice for the day which was celery, pineapple and orange - very refreshing way to start the day. By the time we left the place was packed! Overall a good first time experience. Address details can be found here: /mudgee.html Located at 225 George St beside The Morrison bar and Oyster Room we missed the entry so walked through from The Morrison, arrived about 7.30pm ish there were no tables so we sat at the bar. Tiny little spot i would have to say. Thankfully a couple left so we snagged their table. Order at the bar and grab a number. Ben and I both got "The Black Widow" which is the charcoal bun with ground beef, Chipotle mayo and Jalapenos and the duck fat chips to share! Did not have to wait long, they arrived we devoured them and then we commented. - The charcoal bun doesn't really have a strong taste to it but it felt a wee bit odd eating a black bun alas that also made it feel special - Ground beef and chipotle together great combo! - Not a fan of jalapenos but Ben loved them - Duck fat chips - mmmm tasty! Overall a great first time experience, we missed the deep fried pickles so will have to suss that out next time! . P.s - Don't go and try to see Vivid on a Saturday like we attempted to! Its CRAZY!! People everywhere!!! Address and opening details can be found here: weebly I believe this place has been open just over a month. It is one of those novelty restaurants and we wanted to try the food ourselves. We arrived about 6pm so not many people seated yet. Staff are friendly and attentive. So far so good! Lighting is pretty bright here but then again it was a very gloomy day out. I ordered the banana milkshake and the Jack Daniel ribs. Milkshake was sweet and tasty reminded me of when I was a kid at restaurants. Ribs were a big serving with chips and salad and very saucy just how I like it! And I don't eat a lot of ribs so that's saying something. My sister enjoyed her meal too which was the Jackies Eye fillet I think with mash and veggies. It's my first visit and the place is still new so we shall see how far it goes! I gave it 2 1/2 to 3 stars because I did enjoy my ribs but for 2 meals and a kids meal came to $93! Pretty exy I think! When you in the town hall area around 6 ish and feel a bit peckish for dinner. Do not hesitate to walk to Chefs Gallery on Bathurst St just down from the KFC. Generally if you have the foresight you can book ahead online but alas you can always leave you name with the hostess on the door and wait probably around 5-10 min sometimes its longer and sometimes your're in luck! As soon as we arrived there were at least 12 people waiting outside so we asked for a table for 2 and the hostess asked if we didnt mind bench seats....um of course not! Zing! Instant table and we faced the kitchen so we could see the guy making fresh noodles! Awesome We ordered the Roti Peking Duck, BBQ Fried Noodles and chilli chicken (which we secretly thing should be called KUNG POW Chicken - Its not hot or spicy its just an awesome name!) Everything as usual was mouth-watering! Teamed up with some iced lemon tea! Delish! Waiters are friendly and efficient, Food is quite fast too! Address details can be found here: weebly Dinner catch up with my nephew who is taller than me...go figure!
As always when i feel like vegetables and stir-fry's we always seem to end up here. The food is always tasty and quick, waiters friendly and efficient! And great prices too. We started with some Satay Chicken Skewers (hmmm peanut sauce :D) and Curry Puffs. Then for mains we decided to share between 3 adults and 1 child. So got the Chicken green curry, Beef Pad Thai and Vegetables & Tofu Cashew nut stir fry. As usual they were all delightful! A successful catchup with family and food always goes hand in hand. This is one of those places that you've been meaning to visit but just haven't got the time or you keep forgetting about it.
So since it was our anniversary dinner I figured why not spoil ourselves with some fine french cuisine. It only dawned upon me on the day of our reservation whilst i was trying to find it on google maps, that I have walked past this place so many times and didn't realise it was under my nose the whole time! Ananas is located above Lowenbrau keller and used to be "Uber bar", Now its more a classy establishment :P with bar and restaurant. Beautiful rustic feel inside and loving the pineapple lamps they have throughout the restaurant! For entree, we had the prawn cocktail, then for mains we both had the Savanah grass fed 300g Sirloin, The Mr had his with Bearnaise sauce and I had mine with the cafe de Paris butter sauce both came with pommes frites. For drinks The Mr had a dirty martini with gin which he proclaimed was the best he ever had! I had the Absolutely Ananas (above picture). For dessert, I had the Ananas 4 ways with coconut mousse and he had the Snickers revolution, Both insanely heavenly! Waiters were very hospitable and french :). Overall we both agreed it was the best anniversary dinner thus far! Address details can be found here: weebly So we ended up going Friday night instead. Wait time of about 10 minutes. We got as follows: Pan fried pork dumplings Shredded beef with steam plain bun Seasonal vegetables stir fry with oyster sauce I have to say this was the first time we ever saw these cute little buns! They were fluffy and still steaming from the oven! Beef was saucy and went perfectly well with the "fluffy puffs" (Yes I just gave them a nickname!) so all in all a great dish! I sometimes feel bad taking photos of food in restaurants especially when the staff stare at you! Alas i still managed to get a few below average shots. Have you visited this place before? Tell me what you think :) Til next time Cheerio! |
